Rate our design

Jul 27, 2010   //   by elmalak   //   Computers and Life  //  No Comments

As most of the site and blog visitors are designers I guess it’s important for me to see how do they rate my site and what’s their comments on it.

So, please, take a look around and write a comment on how you see the design, what you like, what you don’t like, and any suggestions you might have to improve it.

All comments are welcome, and please, be honest with me so I can improve it further.

Create Custom Menus with Ease in WordPress 3.0

Jul 22, 2010   //   by elmalak   //   Wordpress Video Tutorials  //  No Comments

This is part 7 of a WordPress How-to video series.

Today I will cover the topic of using the New WordPress 3.0 Custom Menus, and how to make the best use of them in your site.

Topics covered in Screen Cast:

  • How to create a new custom menu and add pages, categories and external links to it
  • How to arrange , rename menu and create sub-items with ease.
  • How to include it in themes that natively support it like the twenty ten theme.
  • What to do if your theme doesn’t support the custom menus.

If your theme doesn’t yet support this wonderful new feature, you can contact your theme developer or you can try to enable it yourself by following the simple instructions in this tutorial from templatic.

Hope you find that helpful and I look forward to your comments about the screen cast and your impressions of the new custom menu feature as well.

Don’t forget to watch the video in full screen mode to enjoy!

My first impressions on a Mac

Jul 18, 2010   //   by elmalak   //   Computers and Life  //  1 Comment

After two years of working with Photoshop CS3, I decided it was time to move forward and take a course on the newly released Photoshop CS5, so I looked for a good training center and I started two days ago.

The thing that made me happy was that they taught on Mac computers, which was my first interaction with a Mac.

I’ve always loved the funny commercials Mac vs. PC, and they always made me wonder, is it really better?

An amazing display for a Mac

Suffering with Arabic Web Design

Jul 10, 2010   //   by elmalak   //   Computers and Life  //  3 Comments

If you’ve tried to design a site in languages other than English, I am sure you must have felt like I do whenever I try to design a site whose language is Arabic.

Most of the coding languages, software, tools, and even the tutorials assume that you’re designing in English and using a left-to-right writing direction, and thus if you’re doing otherwise, you’re in big trouble.

To appreciate what I mean, try opening Dreamweaver and enter some text in Arabic to find it flowing in the wrong direction, which makes it almost impossible to select or edit that text later on!

Arabic text looks funny in Dreamweaver CS3

Things become even worse, if you decide to include English and Arabic text on the same line!

Hoping to see a good and reliable solution for this some time soon to enable designers to create professional looking web sites with ease.

What I like most about Joomla in Video

Jul 5, 2010   //   by elmalak   //   Wordpress Video Tutorials  //  2 Comments

After comparing Joomla WordPress to Joomla twice, focusing on the strengths of Joomla in one, and the new features that make WordPress 3.0 a better CMS in two, I thought it would be nice to show in video the things I still like about Joomla.

This is part 6 of a WordPress How-to video series.

Topics covered in Screen Cast:

  • The Joomla welcome screen is very simple
  • Really easy to sort article and find what you need
  • How easy to use ads and banners in Joomla
  • Adding contact forms and Polls built into Joomla without plugins

Viewing the video in full screen mode will be much more enjoyable!

Please, let me know what you think about them and your comments are highly welcomed.
